Heavy rain yesterday forced organisers to reschedule the event for the second time in two weeks, after rain washed out the original date of March 3.
It is the second year in a row the rodeo has had to be postponed on multiple occasions and organisers hope it won’t happen again.
Early yesterday the plan was to continue with the rodeo today but water from the nearby creek could not be removed.
The rodeo will now go ahead from 2pm tomorrow with gates to open at 12pm.
The move also reduces the expected congestion at Equex with the Group Nine Rugby League All-Stars match scheduled for tonight.
The Wagga Rodeo has attracted an elite group of bucking stock and in turn an elite field of cowboys and cowgirls.
A fresh layer of sand has been laid at the Equex arena to ensure a safe environment for the livestock and a huge crowd is expected to turnout.
More than 4000 people attended last year’s event.
Organiser John Gill said it was his ambition to ensure a successful Wagga Rodeo.
“The public interest and support has been excellent ... Wagga is a great sporting city and there are just as many rodeo people here as football or cricket,” he said.
“We believe the rodeo should be part of the Wagga sporting calendar and the support is what keeps Margaret and I going.
“The rodeo will continue to run as long as the arena remains safe for the livestock.”
Pumps have been working around the clock at Equex to remove all the standing water from the area in preparation for tomorrow’s event.
Champion Australian barrel rider Adele Edwards is set to continue her hot recent form.
The Nangus cowgirl almost broke the Australian record at a recent event and could achieve her goal in Wagga.
Wagga cowboy and former Australian bull-riding champion Clayton Russell heads a strong contingent of men along with Brad Pierce and Todd Hensley.
