Riverina archers amoung the best in the world

21 Apr, 2011 12:00 AM
RIVERINA archers can battle with the best in the world according to Wagga Field Archery Club president Ken Morley.

As the World Bowhunting Championships drew to a close yesterday, Morley was adamant two Wagga archers can be assured of podium finishes.

Having clawed his way up the rankings, Wagga extraordinare Bruce Ramsay is expected to be right in the mix for medals.

Ramsay edged out hundreds of competitors to be sitting within eight points of the leader late yesterday afternoon.

Morley said that at this stage of the competition anything could happen.

"Ramsay is shooting a two-arrow round today (yesterday) so anything could happen as far as ranking goes," he said.

"He was very determined this (yesterday) morning, he didn't talk to anyone and just went straight out to the practice range."

Junee veteran Ron Williams is also well placed to bring home a medal, currently sitting in second place in the veterans mens bowhunting unlimited division.

"Ron's a member of our Wagga club and he'll be looking good to finish in about second or third place," Morley said.

Riverina ladies Lucille McCausland, Christine Stidwell and Debbie Reid are also performing well.

The World Bowhunting Championships presentation ceremony will take place at 1pm today at the Wagga RSL Club.

The National Archery Titles will commence on Saturday until Sunday at Wagga's Wokolena Range.
