Organisers hailed the event a huge success after it had to be postponed from November due to bad weather.
Ironically, the sun shone all day and the crowd were treated to some high-quality rodeo events with some of the best competitors in Australia.
Local favourite Cody Angland didn't let his home town fans down, taking out the open bareback event.
However, the day belonged to Victorian cowboy Brad Pierce who won the open bull ride, finished second in the open saddle bronc and third in the team roping.
Shaun Read took out the saddle bronc ahead of Pierce.
Gundagai Rodeo committee president, Andrew Brock, was extremely happy with how the day turned out.
"We couldn't be more pleased, the crowd was fantastic, the weather was superb, everyone thoroughly enjoyed their day and there were no injuries," he said.
"There were about 300 competitors taking part in a variety of events and about 2500 people through the gates.
"From a club point of view it was a bit of a worry because the event was postponed and so close to Christmas but it just showed what a great event we have here."
Rising young talent Jamie-Lee Plum stole the show earlier in the day, winning the under-18 barrel race before bettering her own time to win the open event.
Graham Mack and Yoshi Todori added an international flavour to the rodeo by winning the team roping event in the outstanding time of 7.74 seconds.
As many as 35 Australian champions have competed in Gundagai over the years and barrel race champion Adele Evans was on hand on Saturday.
Brock was extremely pleased with the level of competition on offer.
"Gundagai is one of the largest rodeos on the calendar and one of the final events of the year," he said.
"The calibre of the stock was sensational but there was still quite a few completed rides which shows you the quality of riders competing.
"The competition was very tight all day in a lot of events."
