Wagga bodybuilder and fitness trainer Christine Zadel will attempt to claim her sixth state title at the weekend as she competes at the International Natural Body-building Association (INBA) in Canberra.Zadel, 42, has snatched the Ms ACT Open Physique title five times in the past eight years, and on an international scale, the INBA Ms Australia Title in 2007.Speaking with obvious excitement, Zadel claims that once she made the decision to get into bodybuilding, it became her lifestyle."It started with cardio training, and then I was asked if I had ever tried weights for body-building. I saw others compete and it gave me the motivation to win - I got addicted."During preparation training, Zadel sticks to a strict diet and exercise regime designed by Melbourne-based trainer, Perry Venakis, to whom she says she owes her success.Zadel trains with Venakis in Melbourne roughly every three weeks, and enacts his training regime every day, encouraged by her position at Xceler8 Fitness Centre.A typical day for Zadel involves waking for cardio training at 5am, and a minimum of three hours of cardio over the course of the day - as well as a gruelling weight training session and a bland diet of only boiled chicken."Body-building is a selfish sport," says Zadel, who is a mother of three children aged between 18 and 15 years. Zadel credits her family's support for her achievements in body-building, especially her husband Mark, who "does all the running around""I'm not home a lot so my family's support has been fantastic," she said. "I'm just a mum, and the kids know that body-building is just something that Mum does."Zadel is attempting to forge new ground for herself, making her debut with the prestigious International Federation of Body-Building (IFBB) in October. The IFBB will host the Victorian, NSW and Australian Titles, with Zadel competing for all."There aren't too many body-builders in Wagga, roughly about 10 or so. "It's much more prevalent in the bigger cities where there are more gyms and opportunities to network are better."Zadel said the competition in Canberra was very good but she was excited to see how she shapes up against the best in the country."I'm very dedicated to my sport and I'm just looking to improve myself," she said.
