YEARS of hard work and determination finally have paid off for Wagga professional motocross star Errol Willis, claiming his first podium finish on Sunday.Enduring a full-time training schedule ahead of the event, Willis has put himself in a prime position to boost his blossoming motocross career.Having already nailed excellent times in last year's Oceania Championships and the World Junior MX Championships, the 17-year-old prodigy was yet to claim a podium time.Willis blitzed the competition in a field of tough riders to take out second place overall in round one of the under 19 Australian Motocross Nationals at Broadford, Victoria."We're so proud of him," mother Jenny Willis said yesterday."He's really focused and determined, and he's really able to see the big picture which is great for a boy of his age."He really knows where he wants to be and he's putting in the effort into his body to be able to get there."Training seven days a week in preparation for his future, Jenny insisted Errol's efforts will one day see him racing internationally full-time."His goal right now is to win the under 19s (Australian Motocross Championships), and he definitely wants to do well in the Super X that's coming up," she said."Eventually down the track what he wants to be doing is racing in America, and that's something he can achieve if he keeps at it."Based in Wagga, Errol is assisted through a full-time sponsorship deal with Suzuki, which has appointed him a team manager and mechanic of his own.Willis's mother Jenny insisted the support of his team manager Chris Woods and his brother, mechanic Steele Willis has been essential to his success."They're working full-time for him, and that gives him the time to be able to train in the gym and on the track," she said. After dominating the titles, Errol will progress to round two of the nine round series to be held in Appin on April 3.
