WAGGA trainer Wayne Carroll will be hoping his patience with promising three-year-old Cabarita Point pays off at today's blockbuster meeting at Murrumbidgee Turf Club.
MTC will host an extremely competitive nine-race card at Wagga today where Cabarita Point will take on a more than handy field in the Scientific Pest Management Class One Handicap (1400m).
While Carroll is certain punters won't see the best of the horse until this time next year, he believes Cabarita Point is set to run a big race in today's event.
After all, Carroll has waited a month to find a suitable race for the Dane Shadow three-year-old.
"He's only lightly raced and he's had a month between runs," Carroll said.
"Its absolutely ludicrous that I can't find a suitable race for a class one horse."
Cabarita Point made his debut in a 2YO lead-up race to the Black Opal in February last year, where he was well-backed on course but finished midfield.
The gelding was immediately spelled but wasted no time making an impression upon his return, winning in devastating fashion first-up at Albury in September.
Cabarita Point has since gone on to run midfield at Gundagai, then ran on strongly over 1200m for third place at Goulburn last month.
"I think he's getting ready for the 1400 metres," Carroll said.
"His last run at Goulburn was very nice on a totally rock-hard bias track.
"He made up ground when horses weren't making up ground on the day.
"Although he's still a this time next year horse, he's slowly starting to pick it up."
Andy Bloomfield is booked for the ride, and from gate eight, Carroll expects the big-framed galloper to settle midfield.
"I imagine he'll be midfield-ish, and I'll suggest to Andy that he get the horse out into plenty of clear air," Carroll said.
"I imagine he'll be running on and whether he gets there in time, so be it.
"It's just good to have him back racing and back at Wagga."
Carroll's other three runners on the day are Lycra Lass, Truly Dashing and Cool Valentino.
"Lycra Lass is a nice filly," Carroll said.
"Truly Dashing was only beaten by a nose the other day at Gundagai and that was the first time we were able to get her to settle.
"If she settles (today) I'm expecting a very nice run.
"Cool Valentino has had a month between runs and she'll probably need the run."
