Just days out from an all important participants meeting with Harness Racing NSW, Temora Trotting Club yesterday announced it has located 200 acres of land just outside the township ideal for the new supercentre.
Club president John New yesterday revealed the facility boasted all the features to make it an “ideal” harness racing venue and was yesterday supported in its bid by NSW minster for Primary Industries Ian McDonald.
The property is crown land, located four kilometres from the centre of town on Goldfields Way, towards Barmedman.
While Wagga is believed to be the preferred location, New yesterday said his club were keen to promote Temora as the ideal location for the supercentre.
“We have located a parcel of land that we feel is ideal for a harness racing venue,” New said in a statement.
“The land is 200 acres in size and is currently crown land.
“We have correspondence from Ian McDonald, confirming his support for our proposal.”
One crucial requirement believed to be required for the supercentre is close access to an airport.
The land at Temora is alongside the airport, one of several positives according to New.
“The town water pipeline, electricity and optic fibre cable run straight through the road frontage of this block of land,” New said. “Their proximity would minimize the cost of having these utilities connected to the facilities at the new venue.
“The Temora Airport is situated alongside this parcel of land and Lake Centenary lies across the road.
“The overflow from Lake Centenary would be sufficient to fill dams to supply water for lawns and track maintenance.
“The size of the parcel of land allows ample space for the construction of a 1400 metre track with race day facilities and stabling facilities for on course trainers.”
Temora, a strong harness racing town, has the support of its shire council and will now come into strong consideration along with Wagga and Coolamon.
New yesterday said he was “over the moon” with how everything was coming together.
Narrandera and Albury are also believed to submitting proposals.
The meeting will be held at Coolamon Golf Club at 1.30pm on Sunday.
