WAGGA Hockey Association's Jane Richards yesterday revealed hockey in the city was on the verge of a minor revolution.

Only two days after the end of the 2009 season, Richards said plans were being developed to raise the profile of hockey and also boost participation levels next year.

"I can't say too much, but there is definitely something in the pipeline to increase the focus on juniors in the 2010 season," Richards said.

"There will be great incentives for junior players."

Hockey player numbers across the board in Wagga were "fairly steady" this year, but had certainly not dropped, said Richards.

The news that hockey will embark on a program to attract more players in junior and senior ranks came as Wagga Hockey Association celebrated the success of teams in all grades on Saturday.

Richards said grand final day at Jubilee Park in Wagga had been a perfect finish to a "great season".

"The crowd was really good and there was a terrific atmosphere," she said.

"It was also very pleasing that the sportsmanship was excellent from players and spectators.

"There was none of the rubbish you sometimes see on TV."

Richards said the competitive edge of teams shone through on Saturday as junior and senior grades completed commitments for the season.

"There was only really one upset, but all the games were fairly tight," she said.

"The minor premiers won every grand final except in men's division two.

"Harlequins Veterans were top of the table after the competition rounds, but lost to Lake Albert in the grand final."

Richards said Harlequins had romped to a 7-0 victory in the men's division one grand final.

"It would great if we could encourage more players to play in this division to make it even stronger," she said.

Harlequins have now won the past three men's division one titles.
