BROTHERS’ champion front-rower Grant Wooden has courageously declared he will play through the pain barrier in the lead-up to the Group Nine finals.
Wooden, who visited a chiropractor yesterday after
injuring his back against Young on Sunday, revealed he has thrown out a hip and two discs in his lower back.
“It’s still very sore,” Wooden said.
“I went to the chiro and he told me I’ve thrown my hip and put discs out in my lower back.
“I’ve got to go to the doctor this afternoon (yesterday) and get some anti-inflammatory to settle it down.”
Despite being in searing pain, Wooden thinks he will be able to play against Kangaroos at Harris Park on Saturday.
“The physio was pretty
confident it will be right,” Wooden said. “I’m confident I’ll be right to play.”
Although the hapless Kangaroos have conceded 106 points in their last two games, Wooden is wary of resting from the game, believing the Roos will rise to the challenge on Saturday.
“I’ve thought about resting but we were supposed to beat them in Round 5 … and they got up,” he said.
“They’ll lift for the game against another Wagga club and I wouldn’t underestimate them.
“They have some great players like Brett Williams and Baden Power.”
Wooden will continue to receive physiotherapy on his injured back in the lead-up to Saturday’s game.
With only three rounds of the Group Nine regular season to be played, Wooden raised the
possibility of a move back to the city for an all-out assault on the finals.
“I may move back down (to Wagga) in a couple of weeks,” Wooden said. “Just depends if I can get some work down there.
“It would definitely help for the lead-up to the finals.”
Wooden believes the Brethren were back to their best in the first half against the Cherrypickers, and had it not been for some pushed passes, the result would have been locked up at half-time.
“We played well especially in the first half,” Wooden said.
“Probably could have been up by 20 points but we pushed passes.
“Young were on a roll after a
win over Temora so it was a good win.”
