SOFTBALL
WAGGA softball star Simone Jorgensen is on the cusp of making the NSW Softball team for next year.
Jorgensen, 15, has already been included in a provisional NSW squad, with the official team to be named next month.
The highly talented sporting all-rounder will travel to Sydney on September 15-16 for a softball training camp at which some players will be excluded.
Simone's mother Judy Jorgensen said yesterday the selection for the NSW team was an extensive process.
Mrs Jorgensen said 50 players were chosen in the original NSW squad, but the number would be heavily reduced by October.
"It's a great opportunity," Judy Jorgensen said.
For Simone Jorgensen, playing softball for NSW would be the first part of her sporting dream.
Also an accomplished netball player, Simon would not like to choose between her two favourite sports.
"I think she'd like to keep playing both sports," Mrs Jorgensen said.
Top Wagga softball coach Tim Bourke said Simone's selection was a reward for her talent and determination.
Bourke said Jorgensen would undergo intensive training with the squad until the team is named in October.
"It would be a great achievement if Simone makes the NSW team," he said.
Simone Jorgensen plays for Lake Albert softball club and is a former pupil at Lake Albert Public School.
Softball has been one of her favourite sports since she was in year 3 at Lake Albert PS.
