RUGBY?LEAGUEBy Travis CohalanFORMER NRL star Daniel Wagon made a memorable Group Nine debut yesterday when Gundagai and Kangaroos played out a thrilling 26-26 draw at Anzac Park.Wagon signed with Gundagai late last week and played in the centres yesterday when the Tigers almost pulled off a Group Nine upset.Wagon, who has played more than 200 games in the NRL with St George and Parramatta, was solid yesterday without being brilliant. He showed tremendous vision in the seventh minute of the game to launch a short-side attacking raid from dummy-half which resulted in the opening try to Gundagai captain-coach Jason Ferris. Wagon was also solid as a rock in defence and he attracted plenty of Kangaroos defenders each time he carried the football. The ex-Queensland State of Origin player came up with a try-saving ankle-tap at a crucial moment yesterday when he lunged and halted the progress of Kangaroos centre Steve McDonnell in the 70th minute. McDonnell was certain to score a try but Wagon's desperation resulted in a tackle and Gundagai repelled that Kangaroos attacking raid.Gundagai controlled the majority of the game yesterday but Kangaroos came roaring home to snatch an unlikely draw when McDonnell scored a try with only two minutes remaining on the clock. The game itself was a physical affair and Gundagai was forced to play out the final seven minutes with only 12 men after several injuries. n Full report and more Group Nine news in Your Game
