FORMER Ganmain and North Melbourne star Frank Gumbleton has urged fans of all clubs to get behind AFL in the Riverina.
A dual premiership player with the Kangaroos in 1975 and 1977, Gumbleton believes the Riverina is Aussie rules heartland.
"Getting a game at Narrandera doesn't happen every day and it is a great opportunity to see some of the best players in the league," he said.
"Narrandera is a great ground to watch football and I hope that a big crowd turns out to support not only the teams but the game."
Recruited from Ganmain as a 19-year-old, the die-hard Roos supporter believes the club is in for an exciting year with a number of young players breaking through.
"Jack Ziebell and Ben Warren showed some terrific form last season before getting injured and have done well this pre-season," he said.
"Liam Anthony is one I think is a future superstar so it is exciting to see these guys come through and ease the load on the likes of Brent Harvey."
Gumbleton said new coach Brad Scott had brought a new game plan that was showing a lot of potential after wins over Geelong and Hawthorn.
A back pocket for most of his career, Gumbleton was shadowed by players such as David Dench and Keith Greig.
However, his dependability ensured his name was always one of the first on the team sheet.
Living in Echuca, Gumbleton keeps up to date with Ganmain Grong-Grong Matong's results.
"I'm on the internet every weekend to see how the boys went and the last two seasons have been very pleasing," he said.
"It was especially pleasing with Sam Keenan playing for Coolamon because I could give it to (Kangaroos premiership teammate Peter) 'Crackers' Keenan."
