Contract woes cause problems

NORTH Wagga has hit a stumbling block with its new captain-coach Daniel Quee after AFL Canberra club Belconnen refused to grant him a clearance.

Belconnen Magpies Football Club general manager Garry Davidson yesterday confirmed Quee was still a contracted and required player at the club.

North Wagga appointed Quee to the position at the end of last season and applied for a clearance earlier this month.

Belconnen was quick to deny the clearance and Davidson yesterday confirmed the club's stance by revealing Quee was still contracted to the Magpies.

"That is the case, yes," Davidson said.

Davidson was tight-lipped about the situation and said he was unsure how the situation will play out.

"We haven't got a plan," Davidson said.

"We'd certainly like to speak to Daniel about it."

The Magpies won the AFL premiership last year and are unlikely to force Quee to stay on and play.

He is no longer listed as a player on the club's website but Davidson hinted that the club still wanted to reach an agreement with Quee and or North Wagga.

"There is a bit of dialogue to take place," Davidson said.

"Hopefully we can resolve something to everyone's satisfaction in time."

If North Wagga is successful in gaining a clearance, Quee is expected to be a late starter due to ankle injury.

The Saints have already made inroads by picking up highly-rated midfielder Ryan Slee last week, to go along with fellow recruits Aaron Hallcroft and Nigel Smith.

Quee will combine with Mark Ward to form one of the youngest coaching combinations in the club's history.
