A CLEARANCE bungle has paved the way for talented The Rock-Yerong Creek forward Tom Marlow to make the move back to his junior club, Lockhart.
AFL Riverina football operations manager Shane Buchanan yesterday confirmed Marlow had been cleared back to Hume League club Lockhart.
TRYC had previously stated it would force Marlow to sit on the sidelines for 12 months as the forward had already signed a contract with the club.
TRYC was given the regulation six days to respond to the clearance but due to an unfortunate set of circumstances, failed to reply.
It left AFL Riverina with no choice but for the clearance to be given the green light.
Buchanan hoped the case was an example to all clubs about responding to clearances.
"It all comes back to clubs managing the clearance process correctly," Buchanan said.
"We acknowledged that there were exceptional circumstances but the club hasn't followed the process through.
"The clearance stands and (TRYC) has accepted that."
Just last week, TRYC captain-coach David Pieper was surprised to hear of the approved clearance.
Club official Bob Driscoll then confirmed Marlow was still a contracted and required player.
But Buchanan yesterday reinforced the rules state that clubs are given six working days to respond to clearances.
This includes a reminder after four days.
"It's nothing new," Buchanan said.
Marlow kicked 53 goals for TRYC during the home-and-away season last year, despite missing several games through injury and suspension.
New Lockhart coach Steve Carroll is thrilled to have Marlow on board to spearhead his attack for the upcoming Hume League season.
