ST Michaels' captain Danny Webber says their top order will need to step up if they are to win tomorrow's preliminary-final.

St Michaels will be striving to overcome South Wagga for a place in the grand final when they clash at Robertson Oval.

Webber said last weekend's impressive win to eliminate Lake Albert from the finals run will give the team a confidence booster leading into tomorrow's match.

"We are very confident for (tomorrow)," said Webber.

"We had a good win last week, and I think we are starting to play our best cricket.

"I think the boys are feeling mainly excitement.

"We've been playing some good cricket, which has given them some confidence."

Saints put on a dominant display of cricket to overcome a heavily-backed Lake Albert outfit at the weekend.

The team posted 199 runs on the board to claim a 147 run first-innings win, with middle-order batsman Nathan Carroll making a swashbuckling half century to help secure their preliminary-final berth.

Webber believes it was their bowling attack which gave them the edge, however says they will need to step-up with the bat to beat South Wagga.

"Knowing what (Brett) Davies and (Dean) Crane can do with the ball, we just focused on bowling the right line and length, and minimising their runs," he said.

"Hopefully we can do that again this weekend and get on top of players like Joely (Joel Robinson) and Kurt (Robertson).

"We need our top three or four to get a good score on the board to take the pressure off our middle-order.

"I think Koetzy (Eric Koetz), (Chris) Young and myself need to get runs and hopefully get a big score.

"Young has got a few 50s this year, so I expect a big finish from him."

St Michaels managed to make it to this stage of the competition last year, before being knocked-out by eventual premiers Wagga RSL.

Saints will go head-to-head with the defending premier next week in the grand final if they are able to claim a win tomorrow.

"I always felt we would make the finals," said Webber.

"Finishing fourth, obviously we want to finish a bit higher.

"We've just had our normal training this week, and a few of us might have a hit with the ball machine on Saturday morning."
