ncTOM Goss was nine years old when his father helped initiate a junior cricket team in their home town of Hay.
The Coolamon resident and teacher has not missed a season since and this year he will celebrate 50 years of playing cricket.
Mr Goss is an apt all-rounder and currently plays in second grade for South Wagga.
He was an integral part of the Coolamon team from 1978 to 1990 and said he is pleased to see a resurgence of cricket in the community after years on hiatus.
"Cricket has been reactivated in Coolamon, which is really good," Mr Goss said.
"They have two sides in the local comp this year."
During his impressive career, he has played for Coolamon, Narrandera, Wagga and Randwick clubs and produced amazing figures, including a personal best of 9-42.
Mr Goss likes conquering good bowling and the challenge of making runs but said he is ultimately drawn to the camaraderie and the friendships he has formed within each club.
His fitness regime consists of five mornings a week in his home gym during winter and regular sessions of yoga to increase his flexibility.
Mr Goss did not know it at the time but he had the chance to face-off with one of the best in the business.
"The best player I ever played against was Michael Slater," he said.
"I bowled against him when he was 15 and you could tell he was something special."
Despite Shane Warne's off-field antics, Mr Goss said the spin bowler is the best he has ever seen.
Mr Goss was disappointed with Australia's performance in the Ashes series but thinks they redeemed themselves in the following One Day International matches.
