Wagga District Court grants bail to Catherine Davies accused killer

THE man accused of killing Catherine Davies in 2007 has been granted bail in Wagga District Court.Paul Patrick Ryan, 48, is facing charges of manslaughter and inflicting grievous bodily harm but was freed on conditions that he reside in Wee Waa and report to police three times per week.Ryan's solicitor Steven Ward was in court to have his client's bail reviewed and succeeded in his application after the case was adjourned to Griffith District Court on May 11, 2011.According to police facts, Ryan was freed from jail on February 26, 2007, after serving time for previous assaults of Ms Davies, 51.On February 28 witnesses reported seeing Ryan and Ms Davies drinking at a hotel in Hillston along with Ryan's brother.However, only days later Ryan allegedly contacted police saying he had assaulted Davies and wanted to go back to jail.Police began a search of the Hillston, Griffith and Hay areas before the grandmother's body was found in her Hay apartment on March 2.During a police interview Ryan admitted assaulting Ms Davies in the past but denied playing any part in her death from a brain haemorrhage.Strike Force Gili was established to investigate the death, resulting in the Ryan's arrest in November 2009 and he was in custody from that time until his bail was granted on Wednesday.
