Teen party gatecrashed

02 Nov, 2009 01:00 AM

A LAKE Albert teen had some explaining to do when his parents arrived home yesterday after his "small get-together" on Saturday night went horribly wrong and was ended by police.

Wagga police were called to Greg Nolan's house on Lansdowne Avenue shortly after midnight amid reports that up to 40 teenagers had gatecrashed.

Greg, 17, said his parents had only given him permission to have "a few friends around for a barbecue, a few drinks and a swim" while they were away.

He said it didn't quite reach the magnitude of the one hosted by infamous party boy Corey Worthington but "was big enough".

"A few weird people from up the road turned up. I knew a couple of them but more and more came," Greg said yesterday.

"There were fights and broken bottles. There was lots of mess, glass in the pool and I got drinks spilt all over the CD player ... there was probably about 40 people here."

Greg said he couldn't believe a "small get-together" got so out of hand.

"I know a few girls started to text around and got everyone to come," he said.

"I told them not to. I didn't plan to have a party, it was just a get-together. I was a bit freaked out. I just thought people would come around to listen to music and have a few drinks."

"I hate people going through my house. There was mess inside girls going through the bathrooms left makeup all over the floor.

"There were a few sensible ones just chatting and others had a few drinks and were dancing and jumping around.

"A lot of mess, inside and out it was almost like the house was trashed."

Wagga police Inspector Paul Huxtable said the experience should serve as a warning to other young people.

"People should be very mindful of who they tell about a party and their parents not being home, especially with the prevelance of text messaging," he said.

Inspector Huxtable said no charges arose out of the incident.

The party got out of hand around 12.30am yesterday and Greg's friend noticed police cars had pulled up out the front.

"I went and had a chat to them (the police). They got back up and told everyone to go," Greg said.

"People were coming up to me trying to sweet-talk me to let them stay but the cops got them all out."
