Mr Ryder said the development would suit the demographics of southern Wagga where there were many young families.
Richard Fitzpatrick, of managing agents, Fitzpatricks Real Estate, described the proposed shopping centre as a good little hub that would cater for residents in the Tatton, southern Kooringal and Lakehaven areas, including people planning to move into The Grange seniors living complex now being built.
"It's very fortunate we have been able to bring this project on while Tatton is still relatively young," Mr Fitzpatrick said.
The development application is now on public exhibition and council will accept submissions up until July 2.
The site is zoned for a supermarket.
Work would start on the $1.8 million project as soon as possible after council approval, Mr Ryder said.
