Shoppers rejoice as Aldi opens its doors

16 Oct, 2009 12:00 AM
THE new Aldi store in Glenfield Park, Wagga opened its doors yesterday at 8.30am and almost 50 bargain hunters patiently lined up to get the first glimpse of the shopping revolution.

Since the announcement that Aldi would open in Wagga there has been excitement building for months by locals, with the well-advertised low prices and opening-day specials.

After only an hour of being opened hundreds of visitors and locals passed through the doors, aisles and check outs with trolleys full of items.

One lady went through the check-out emptied her trolley then went through the store again.

Shoppers were manoeuvring up to two and three trolleys per person making the aisles seem even smaller as they rushed around the store to see as much as they could. Store management was unable to comment but seemed pleased with the turn-out.

A steady crowd was expected throughout the first day and even more are expected to visit over the weekend.

People travelled from Lockhart, Junee, and The Rock, but the furthest traveller would have to be James Tongue and his wife who travelled 160km from Darlington Point just to see the deals.
