WAGGA residents sweltered under record November temperatures, with the city on the cusp of rewriting the history books.Yesterday was the final day of November, and the mercury had already soared high enough throughout the month to set the city up to smash the previous highest average monthly maximum temperature.Officially the final reading to determine the monthly average for November will be taken at 9am today, however, yesterday Bureau of Meteorology technical officer Geoff Nicholls was confident the record would be surpassed.About 11am yesterday, the average temperature for November was sitting at a scorching 33.1 degrees Celsius, with the previous record set in 1982 locked at 30.8 degrees Celsius."We still have today (yesterday) to go," Mr Nicholls said."It really doesn't become official until (today) but we are high enough over it that it should remain over the previous record."We were going for a cooler 24 today (yesterday) but that should not be enough to bring it back down below 30.8."In another significant blow to farmers and the city's keen garden enthusiasts, Wagga has not met any of the monthly rainfall averages for 2009.Manicured lawns, crops and livestock have already felt the adverse effects of a year of significantly reduced rainfall and, unfortunately, there is no relief on the horizon. The 27.4 millimetres of rain which fell across the city during November was a far cry from 44mm average. "Wagga has not reached or exceeded any of the monthly average rainfalls for 2009," Mr Nicholls said."June was just below at 0.4 but that is as close as we have got."Sadly, there is no rainfall looming in short-term weather forecasts, with Mr Nicholls declaring that after a cooler day yesterday, Wagga is going to start heating up again for a warm start to summer.
