WAGGA may lose its last local television news bulletin.According to industry insiders, Prime News will no longer be broadcast from its Wagga studios. From July 1, Wagga's "local news" will be broadcast from Canberra, which could mean that respected newsreader Doug Hogan will also move to the nation's capital.Along with Prime Orange, the Riverina's last local TV station is set to move due to financial reasons and will lead to one full-time position being lost in each station.Prime's journalists will remain in the city covering the region's major events but the 6pm broadcast will not take place in the Lake Albert Road studios. The move could also bring the news deadline forward meaning important community stories may not receive the same attention they do currently. It also casts serious doubts on the continuation of the station's live broadcasts.Prime Wagga and Orange declined to comment while Canberra general manager Doug Edwards did not answer questions yesterday. However, sources have confirmed the move, which will bring a close to Prime's local connection with the Riverina. The move means NSW's largest inland city will no longer have a news bulletin as neither Southern Cross Ten nor WIN television broadcast from the region.Griffith had a local news broadcast until 2006 when it was merged with the Wagga bulletin, which is read from the Wollongong station.WIN has been in Wagga since 1989 but has never broadcast locally.
