A POLICE officer is expected to undergo treatment for a nasty bite to his hand, allegedly inflicted by a drunken reveller at Saturday's bachelor and spinster ball at Ariah Park.
Police and organisers have generally praised the behaviour of about 1500 partygoers who kicked up their heels at the event's 25th anniversary.
Shortly after midnight yesterday, a 33-year-old Ariah Park resident allegedly disagreed with the view of security guards that he had had too much to drink and refused to leave the showground.
Police were called and the man allegedly battled violently with the officers and inflicted a nasty bite wound to the hand of a policeman.
He was eventually restrained and driven to Wagga police station where he was charged with seven offences including four of assault and one of resisting arrest.
He is expected to appear in Temora Local Court on November 25.
"It was a deep bite wound, one that will need further treatment," said Inspector Paul Huxtable from Wagga.
Organisers were ecstatic at crowd numbers, according to spokesman Corey Brooks.
"As far as we know, it was one of the biggest crowds yet. They came early and it was a hot day 45 degrees under the cooler bag," Mr Brooks said.
"They were generally well-behaved. The bands and food were good. We had a couple of hen's nights and buck's parties and a 21st."
