These were the words used by family and friends to describe the boy whose life was cut short by a fatal skateboard accident last week.
Lachy Burgess, 17, was famous among his friends for pushing the limits and stories were shared yesterday of a young man who was incredibly active and outgoing.
Wakeboarding, snowboarding, skateboarding, riding his BMX or dirt bike and, sadly, skitching – the craze of being towed by a car while on a skateboard.
It was this that got him killed.
Yesterday’s funeral celebrated the life of an active and charming young man who enjoyed life to the fullest and left a “lasting impression” on those who knew him.
“The BMX gave Lachy and his friends some freedom so they didn’t have to be taken around by adults,” his older brother told the service.
“Lake Albert was truly Lachy’s playground. He and his friends had no end of fun there.”
The story of a five-year-old Lachy first visiting the snow was told, along with his aptitude for winter sports that shone through in later years.
Photos and home video footage was played which showed him performing the stunts on his BMX that have also formed part of his own YouTube channel. The rap song Young, Wild and Free was played over the images in a mood that was less sombre, and more reflective of the life he lived.
His brother read out a poem about why God made little boys – something he said summed up his little brother well.
As the procession led away from the service, dozens of schoolmates cried and hugged each other, forever touched by the tragic death of their mate.
