A MOUNT Austin man has been airlifted to Sydney after he was found in a car that had slammed into a tree.
Wagga police are appealing for witnessed to the single-vehicle accident that was discovered around 12.20am today.
A man travelling along Old Narrandera Road at Gobbagombalin - around 800 metres from Pine Gully Road - when he noticed skid marks on the road, broken glass and a reflection in his mirror.
The driver stopped to investigate and discovered a blue Mistubishi Magna that had left the road and smashed into a tree.
Inside the car, injured in the driver's seat, was a 51-year-old Mount Austin man.
Police and paramedics were called and the driver of the Magna was taken Wagga Base Hospital before he was airlifted to a Sydney hospital.
Hi injuries include a number of fractured vertebrae in his neck and spine, and other internal injuries.
Police are now seeking information from the public, particularly anyone who may have seen the vehicle or the accident, as the cause of the crash remains unknown.
