State Emergency Service (SES) region and incident controller James McTavish spoke to the North Wagga and Gumly crowds, warning them to prepare for up to a week in isolation.
He said the major concern was flash flooding along low-lying areas of the Murrumbidgee River.
“You guys have done it before, you know what is expected,” he said. “That includes all your necessary food and medicines and I’d encourage you if you are taking regular medication to source those today.
“You may not have a chance to if the river comes up rapidly.”
Mr McTavish said the SES aimed to provide 12 hours’ notice if evacuations or isolation were to take place and this would be done by state emergency text messages, local radio and on SES Facebook and Twitter.
He was clear that SES resources were stretched, saying if isolation occurred, assistance would only be provided across the river for urgent matters.
