Man hurt in home invasion

A WAGGA man was bashed over the head with a piece of timber and kicked in the ribs during a home invasion in Mount Austin, police said yesterday.Crime manager, Detective Inspector Rod Smith, said police were looking for three men who kicked in the front door of a Phillip Avenue house and terrorised the two occupants.He said a 24-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were in bed about 12.15am when they heard a knock on the door."They then heard the door being kicked in," Inspector Smith said."As they rose from the bed, three men entered the home."One of the men was holding a knife and a screwdriver and they demanded money."Inspector Smith said the men stole a small amount of money from the woman's purse and also took an empty jewellery box and a hammer with a pink handle."During this time, the man was struck to the head with a piece of timber," Inspector Smith said."He fell to the floor and was kicked in the ribs."The man suffered bruising to his face and ribs.The men then left the house and it is believed they drove away.Police yesterday issued descriptions of the men.One is described as a male of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance, with a short, chubby build.He was wearing a dark "hoodie".The other men were of Caucasian appearance.One was tall and skinny, wearing a white hoodie.The other had a short to medium build and was also wearing a white hoodie.
