JUNEE Correctional Centre inmate Buckley Reeves was angry at a prison guard, believing the officer was responsible for him being behind bars longer than he needed to be.
During an interview with another officer on October 22 last year, Reeves let fly with threats laced with obscene language that led him to being charged with stalk, harass or intimidate a law officer.
Reeves pleaded not guilty to the offence but was found guilty yesterday after a hearing before magistrate Anthony Murray.
It was alleged Reeves told the officer that when he got out of prison he was going to find the other person, smash them and jump on their head.
In evidence yesterday, Reeves admitted he had held such a conversation.
"I was angry, I did not know what was going on...I was just letting off a little steam," Reeves said.
Reeves' legal representative argued Reeves was not guilty of the offence because he could not know the threat would be communicated to the officer.
Mr Murray rejected that argument before Reeves went into the witness box to give evidence and agreed with a suggestion by the police prosecutor he would have expected the threat to have been passed on.
After finding the offence proved, Mr Murray remanded Buckley in custody until he is sentenced next Wednesday, February 10.
Mr Murray said he was looking at another prison term for Buckley.
