A MAN who answered a knock on the front door of his home on the weekend was expecting a visitor, but instead he was on the receiving end of a terrifying and potentially deadly attack.
About 6.45pm on Saturday, a man opened the door of his Ashmont home to let in an expected visitor, only to be greeted by a man wearing a balaclava.
Police say when the door was opened, the second man threw liquid into the resident's face, which caused a burning sensation and for him to slip and fall to the floor.
The balaclava-clad man then entered the house, and when the other man turned he allegedly saw the intruder in possession of a large bladed knife.
The victim has informed police his attacker told him to "get on the ground, get on the ground or I'll light you", and then attempted to bind his hands.
At one point the knife was put down, and when the man went to reach for it, the victim took the opportunity to run from the house and call for help.
Police responded a short time later and began investigating the attack.
As a result, a 28-year-old Wagga man was arrested and subsequently charged with aggravated entering a dwelling, armed with the intent to commit indictable offence and convicted felon armed with intent.
He was refused bail and will appear before Wagga Local Court today.
Also over the weekend, a 28-year-old man was assaulted in or near Capital Nightclub on Baylis Street.
Ambulance officers arrived around 1.40am yesterday morning to treat the man for a small laceration to the right cheekbone and small cuts to the lip after he was assaulted by a 32-year-old man.
