Hitch-hiker killed after falling from truck

19 Jan, 2012 02:06 PM
Police are battling to identify a hitch-hiker killed on Wednesday night after he fell from the back of a truck near Collingullie about 10.45pm.

The man, believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s, reportedly climbed onto the back of the B-double truck when it stopped at a set of traffic lights in Wagga.

The driver of a truck travelling west along the Sturt Highway behind the B-double saw the man clinging to the back of the trailer and attempted to contact the other driver on the UHF radio.

When the truck driver carting the hitch-hiker did not respond he began flashing his lights but failed to get the driver’s attention.

The hitch-hiker then reportedly fell from the back of the trailer.

Though both drivers stopped to help the hitch-hiker, police said that he died at the scene.

A report is currently being prepared for the coroner.

Anyone with any information on the incident should contact Wagga police on 6922 2540.

OMG ~ there are ways of Hitch-Hiking ~ and there are ways of NOT Hitch-Hiking...!!!

Now this poor Truck Driver has to live with this memory for the rest of his life.

Might be worth trying the homeless shelter or asking around near the river where a lot seem to be camping.

Perhaps he was a homeless person ?

May of been booted out of the shelter recently or recently left the river camping area?

Worth a try if they have no idea who it is.
