THE music section of Wagga Eisteddfod might miss out on its 90th birthday celebrations if a new committee cannot be established for the 2010 event.

The music committee is currently made up of four people, all of whom are retiring from their positions after this year's Eisteddfod.

Most have spent much of the last 12 years organising the music part of the festival, and will be sad to see it go if no one is there to replace them.

"I would hate to see the music festival fold, but unless we can get new volunteers to take over, I really can't see any other option," said music convener Lisa Harvey.

"Speech and dance will continue on, but this actually happened in Albury last year and it folded.

"For 89 years it's been a tradition in Wagga, it would be a real shame if we didn't have a 90th."

Mrs Harvey said that while there are plenty of volunteers during show week, it is the organising part of the job that they need help with.

"Lots of people will volunteer for a couple of hours during the Eisteddfod week, but we really need to get people involved in the organisation of it ... it's probably not more than 40 hours per year," she said.

"The procedures and things we've got in place are really easy to follow so it would just be a matter of taking over ... four is an ideal number, it's a good balance of numbers with the workload."

"We need someone with new, fresh, enthusiastic ideas. When you've been running something for so long you get a bit set in your ways," said Mrs Harvey.

All the volunteer would need is "a love of music" and a want "to give the opportunity for people to perform".
