MEMBER?for Riverina Kay Hull says regional passengers will have to fight the Rudd Government's proposed decision to turn the Richmond RAAF Base into a temporary second Sydney airport because it is likely Qantaslink and Regional Express passengers would be relocated to the western suburb when travelling to Sydney.
"It is up to us to fight, as regional Australians collectively, to keep regional passengers at the Sydney airport and not at Richmond," Mrs Hull said.
"It will add additional costs to regional passengers when accessing or conducting business in the city."
Mrs Hull said it was a fight well won when Sydney Airport Corporation lost the argument to relocate regional carriers to Bankstown in previous years.
"Regional Australians and particularly those in NSW need to stand up and not accept the decision to be relegated to somewhere like Richmond.
"It will make it more difficult for business operators in regional areas and medical professionals to be delivered to and from Sydney," she said.
"We need to get behind Qantaslink and Regional Express and say it is non-negotiable to be moved from Sydney airport."
Mrs Hull said the question was put to the Government yesterday about the Richmond airport optoin but Prime Minister Kevin Rudd "did not rule in or rule out" the decision.
"It is all talk at the moment. So we have to be responsible and keep this at just 'talk', " Mrs Hull said.
Regional Express was unavailable for comment yesterday.
