HABITUAL drink-driver Douglas George Green was given a jail sentence and disqualified from driving for another eight years when he faced Wagga Local Court yesterday.
Green, a 33-year-old labourer of Travers Street in Wagga, was already disqualified until September 15, 2015 when he failed a police breath test on July 23.
He had a one-year-old child in the car.
Magistrate Geoffrey Hiatt yesterday slapped another three years onto his driving ban after convicting Green for driving with a mid-range blood alcohol reading of .110.
Mr Hiatt then added another five years to the disqualification in declaring Green a habitual offender, increasing his driving ban to September 13, 2023.
In sentencing, Mr Hiatt said it was the sixth time since 2006 that Green had been before the court for driving while disqualified or suspended and it was his fourth drink- driving offence.
"There comes a point where you need to accept responsibility for your offending behaviour," Mr Hiatt told Green.
Mr Hiatt said jail was the only sentence the community would consider appropriate.
Green's non-parole period was set at nine months but he lodged an appeal and received bail.
According to police facts, Green had told them he had drunk three full-strength schooners of beer between 10am and 11am at a pub on the day he was pulled over.
Green appeared affected by alcohol as he had slurred words and bloodshot eyes and smelt of alcohol.
