CSU’s existing childcare services are no longer adequate with a significant waiting list for the 38 spaces available on campus. The upgrade will lift the childcare places to 76.
Adrian Lindner, head of Wagga campus, said the extra capacity could be offered to the general public if there was spare room after staff and students had first pick.
Mr Lindner said the new building was designed to satisfy the demand for additional childcare on campus, but there was scope in the project for additional upgrades down the track.
In addition to the extra childcare spaces, CSU will be able to offer additional employment, but until demand was confirmed Mr Lindner was unable to provide numbers.
“We won’t know until the facility is complete, ” he said.
Wagga City Council is yet to approve the development, with construction tentatively set to begin in February.
