The event is being organised by Ashleigh Hubbard – whose parents Allan and Leanne Woolstencroft live in Mary Street – and Melinda Rosler.
Mrs Hubbard said the barbecue idea came to her while she was thinking about how she could help her parents.
“I have a five-month-old baby and I can’t do much cleaning up for them,” Mrs Hubbard said.
“I was going to organise feeding mum and dad and I thought: what about everyone else?”
The aim at this stage is to have lunchtime barbecues for three days.
The barbecue organisers have already marshaled a lot of support for their event, which will be held on the netball courts at McPherson Oval.
Mrs Hubbard said Coles at South City had offered 50 pallets of water and Big Springs was also offering water, while meat had been offered by Knights Meats and the Turvey Tops and Kooringal butcheries.
Pop’s Bakery at Lake Albert and Brumby’s Bakery at South City would provide bread, while BCF would help out with a marquee, Mrs Hubbard said.
More supporters are coming aboard constantly, including Wagga-based charity Angels For The Forgotten.
The charity’s founder Melina Skidmore said the group would hand out packs to North Wagga residents that included cleaning products, rubber gloves, face masks, disinfectant and garbage bags.
Blankets, towels and other personal care items will also be given away.
Anyone who can help staff the barbecues is asked to telephone Ashleigh Hubbard on 6926 1798 or Melinda Rosler on 0411 756 399.
