BOEING jets, a new terminal, broadened aviation educational opportunities, bigger car parks and exciting business ventures are the future of Wagga Airport. The blueprints outlining the grandiose plans for Wagga Airport and its surrounding dusty paddocks were on centre stage last night at the public meeting held at Forest Hill Public School.Wagga City Council's airport draft master plan is set to become the new talking point in the city after huge possibilities for the future of the airport precinct were unveiled.Manager of council businesses Grant Johnson yesterday declared the "forward thinking master plan" allows for council to anticipate future growth in the city by reserving essential land for specific purposes. With population growth predicted to continue to increase over the next 20 years the long-term master plan accommodates the prospect of requiring an expansion to current services through larger, more powerful aircraft."At the moment the aircraft are turboprop, not jets," he said."With further expansion in the city and with the population continuing to grow there will be an increasing number of people using air travel in and out of Wagga."There will be the need to look at what capacity there is to accommodate this with more frequent flights in and out or with larger aircraft."The master plan takes in the capacity of the runways and terminals to accommodate jets such as the size and power of a Boeing 737."Airlines and passengers could benefit from improved landing conditions and decreased chances of delays through the inclusion of the instrument landing system in the master plan.
