Wagga boys had a variety of names which fared highly, but in the end Oliver was the most popular choice among parents in the city.
This was not the same story for NSW - the royal wedding could be an influential factor that shows every parent sees their son as a prince because William was the most popular boy name throughout the state.
William has taken the number-one place for boy names two years in a row, showing it is a long-standing choice that was more common 100 years ago.
Other popular girl names in Wagga included Charlotte, Sophie and Zoe, which was a change from two years ago when Matilda, Mia and Ava were in top spots.
Throughout NSW it was Chloe, Isabella and Olivia which fared well, each being chosen about 500 times in 2011.
Favourite boy names in Wagga were also different from last year with Toby, Max and Judd being popular choices whereas Harry, Riley and Thomas were the names in vogue for 2010.
In NSW Lachlan, Ethan and Lucas received honourable mentions with Oliver trailing behind in fifth place at a total tally of 481 new babies taking on the name when looking across the state.
One father who has decided to do things differently is Wagga resident Frank Palmer who named his son Lancelot, approaching his first birthday in February.
"It was my partner's grandfather's name," he said. "He passed away a few years ago, so it's in memory of him."
